Welcome to my website. I am a professor in the department of chemical engineering at the Industrial Engineering School of the Technical University of Madrid. I've always been interested and involved in modeling and control of complex systems, subjects that I teach and are part of my research scope. Most of my research activity is done in the Autonomous Systems Laboratory (ASLab).
My main research interests (besides modeling and control) are focused on process safety and autonomous systems, both following a systems theory approach, being models the core piece of the methodologies used. I am also involved in some industrial projects related to bioenergy. You can find more details about my research and teaching activities and interests in the different sections of this site.
This School was founded more than 150 years ago. Originally it had only two careers: mechanical and chemical engineering. Nowadays it has eight different engineering specialities. In Spain the degree obtained is Industrial engineering specialised in chemical, mechanical, electrical, etc. engineering.
The Chemical Engineering Department is quite big, it has more than 30 professors and it is one of the oldest departments of the University. The Department has four main pillars, concerning different specific domains: Environmental Engineering, Applied Chemistry, Materials (non metallic) Science and Chemical Technology.
The Autonomous Systems Laboratory is an official Research Group at he Technical University of Madrid. Most of its members belong to the Industrial Engineering School. There are professors from the Automatic and Control Department, the Chemical Engineering Department and the Computer Science Department.
The main goal of the group is to develop Fully Autonomous Systems for real industrial applications.
